The EdTech Report is a weekly newsletter and a set of short guides on using AI for everyday teaching jobs in UK schools.

Rizvan Ali

Former secondary maths and science teacher, now leading AI engineering.

I spent eight years teaching maths and science in UK secondary schools. I now lead AI engineering, building the kind of systems that teachers are being asked to use. I also run Brainjam, an AI consultancy, where I build AI systems for organisations.

I started The EdTech Report because most of what I read about AI in education falls into one of two camps: excitement about tools that will “transform” everything, or warnings that leave teachers unsure whether they should touch it at all.

Neither is much use on a Tuesday evening with thirty books to mark. So each guide and issue takes one task, gives you a prompt to adapt, and says what to check before anything reaches a pupil or parent. Pupil data stays out of tools your school hasn’t approved.

What it covers

  • Lesson planning, resource creation and retrieval practice
  • Marking, whole-class feedback and report writing
  • Data protection, safeguarding, and what DfE and JCQ guidance means in practice
  • Wider edtech: honest notes on the tools schools are using

What it won’t do

  • Promise that a tool will transform your teaching
  • Encourage you to put pupil data anywhere your school hasn’t approved
  • Replace your school’s policies or your own professional judgement
